Smith Named to Manage Bal Seal’s Global Analytical Market
Pressure and Technology Demands Drive Company’s “Deepening Commitment”
Foothill Ranch, Calif. – U.S.A. – February 6, 2014 – Bal Seal Engineering, Inc., a leading designer and producer of custom sealing, connecting, conducting and EMI shielding components, has named Sarah Smith to the position of Global Market Manager for analytical products. In her new role, Smith will help manufacturers of liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and other analytical instrumentation meet industry demands for increased precision and throughput. She will be based at the company’s Foothill Ranch, Calif. headquarters.
According to Bal Seal Director of Business Development David Fogel, Smith’s new position signals the company’s “continued and deepening commitment” to advances in analytical technology. Until recently, Fogel explains, the market had been grouped with medical business under a single manager. But specific demands of the analytical industry, including skyrocketing pressure requirements and other technological developments in high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) warranted a “proactive split” to one manager per market.
“The analytical market is changing so rapidly as manufacturers of HPLC and UHPLC systems look to break the 20,000 PSI barrier,” says Fogel. “Naming a dedicated manager is part of our strategy to ensure that we address the needs of this market as it strives to make these advancements.”
Smith, a degreed mechanical engineer, has held several technical and sales positions at Bal Seal over the past seven years. Most recently, she worked as the company’s territory sales manager in France. As Analytical Global Market Manager, she will serve a customer base that spans from the U.S. to Asia, working with design engineers and the Bal Seal sales force to help OEMs create next-generation analytical equipment that provides better sample resolution and faster turnaround.
“Bal Seal has a long history of success in the analytical market, says Smith, “and we know that there’s great potential for growth. By establishing this focused management role and continuing to innovate with products like the new Enduris™ HPLC seal, we’re positioning ourselves to help customers meet emerging requirements, and we’re paving the way for our expansion into other analytical segments.”
Smith will represent Bal Seal at the world’s largest analytical event — the Pittcon Conference and Exhibition — held March 2–6 in Chicago’s McCormick Place. At the company’s booth #3410, she will demonstrate the new Enduris™ UHPLC Seal, the first sealing solution proven to deliver consistent, long-term service in liquid chromatography pumps at pressures of 22,000 PSI and higher.
